County Level Estimates of the Uninsured in North Carolina
These reports provide county-level estimates of the number and percentage of people under the age of 65 in North Carolina who lack health insurance for two time frames: the three year period 1999-2001, and the year 2002. The model uses pooled data from the US Census Bureau's Current Population Surveys (CPS) and population characteristics of each of North Carolina's 100 counties to estimate uninsurance, including gender, race, ethnicity, poverty status, educational attainment, and employment characteristics.

Data Caveats and Assumptions: Calculations are made for the population UNDER THE AGE OF 65 YEARS. For the population 65 years and older, Medicare coverage is assumed and therefore are excluded from the analysis. Members of the armed forces were also excluded for similar health insurance coverage issues. Please note: If the 65 and older population were included into the estimates, the percentage of the entire population who lack health insurance would decline, because a fully insured population would be added.
